Nirvana - What is Nirvana?
Nirvana was a popular American rock group, from Aberdeen, Washington. With the hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from the album Nevermind, Nirvana climbed the charts around the world and started the explosion of what was hitherto underground punk and alternative rock in the world music scene in a movement to which the media of the era would refer to as “grunge.” Other bands on the Seattle music scene as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden also gained popularity and as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television during the first half of the 1990 . Nirvana - scoff
As you likely know by now, in honor of Bleach‘s 20th Anniversary, Sub Pop’s released a Deluxe Edition of the band’s 1989 debut. It includes a remastered Bleach, along with live performances, and special packaging (48-page CD/16-page LP booklets). One of the live cuts is this previously unreleased version of “Scoff” from the band’s February 1990 show at Portland’s Pine Street Theatre with Screaming Trees and TAD. People wore flannel. The new Bleach features that night’s set in its entirety (you’ll hear “About A Girl,” a cover of the Vaselines’ “Molly Lip”) remixed from the original tapes by Pacific Northwest stalwart/Bleach‘s original producer Jack Endino. Take a listen to “Scoff” while you take in the rest of the track list.

Nirvana - Nirvana Review

NIRVANA: n./1 : The ineffable ultimate in which one has achieved disinterested wisdom and compassion. (The Buddha).
If the 70’s and 80’s lived on Lennon’s legendary words ’’You
may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one’’, then for grunge lovers worldwide, Kurt Donald Cobain’s mesmerising lines ’’I’m worst at what I do best and for this gift I feel blessed’’ (from Smells Like Teen Spirit’) is certainly what keeps them going. Read the rest of this entry »
Nirvana - Live at reading review
In 1994, the year Kurt Cobain did or did not commit suicide, Nirvana released its famous MTV Unplugged live album. This eventually achieved a classic status, which it very well deserved. The performance was stripped-down, but with the band standing on the brink of destruction, the angst-filled music shone through as never before in the superbly performed acoustic set, which included some interesting additions, in the form of material not originally written by the band. Their own material got a new edge and the covers were fantastic. Surely, it was a live album Nirvana would never best. Read the rest of this entry »
